There is a way to generate e-mail to a specific e-mail address from Controllogix PLC. No additional hardware / software, such as Win-911 or XL Reporter, are needed - just ControlLogix CPU and network bridge card - 1756-ENBT or 1756-EN2T-and name or IP address of the mail relay server. The solution involves ladder logic code and messaging instructions sent to ENBT module. We have tested it, and e-mailing from a PLC works very well; we use it to inform personnel about particular system alarms and status conditions. The PLC generated e-mail looks just like regular normal e-mail with "To", "From" and "Subject" sections and a text body.
