Continuous Casting Control System for Steel Mill

Upgrading the control system for a Demag continuous billet caster at this Alabama-based mill consisted of converting the operator interface at both pulpits to Wonderware® Intouch™ and touch screen monitors; updating and cleaning up all PLC programming, including adding alarm programming based in the PLCs; and fully utilizing communication with the Level III database without impacting the database itself. All of the work was completed "on the fly" without interrupting the production process.
