Palm Beach, Florida
Southern Region-Water Reclamation Facility, Phase II
When
residents of Palm Beach County drive along the Florida Turnpike,
they can see the Southern Region Water Reclamation Facility. They
can easily see the pumps, clarifiers, and other equipment and related
buildings that make up this 30 million-gallons-per-day wastewater
treatment facility. What they don't see is the highly sophisticated,
automated control and data acquisition system that provides monitoring
and control functions for the plant.
The
Phase II project doubled the plant's capacity from its previous
15 mgd capacity. Hazen and Sawyer, environmental engineers and scientists,
served as the consulting engineers on the project, which totaled
$1.3 million dollars in scope. Revere's portion of the project was
to retrofit the existing control system and install a new SCADA
(supervisory control and data acquisition) system to support the
expansion.
Key
Design Factors
Revere applied the latest technologies
to develop a system that provides 24-hour-a-day monitoring, data
acquisition, and control functions. Key factors in the system's
design were minimizing the amount of operator-machine interfacing
and reducing the manpower hours required to operate the facility.
Our engineers and technicians provided programming and software
configuration, computer networking and hardware design, custom-built
PLC panels, testing, and site commissioning for the project.
