Special Considerations
Florida is the nation's lightning
strike capital, posing another challenge for our engineers. Such
strikes can cause significant damage to computers and other electronic
equipment. To counter this threat, the plant-wide network was constructed
of fiber optic cable, which offers a very poor path for voltage
surges from lightning strikes. In addition,
each run of cable had a mirror run to provide redundancy, allowing
re-initiation of service in the event of cable damage.
Value Added
One aspect of Revere's production
is extensive testing using sophisticated real-world simulation processes.
During this simulation testing phase, Palm Beach County personnel
were at our plant receiving training on their exact system, which
enhances their skills and promotes better operational performance.
The system completed its testing as scheduled with no major issues
identified.
Our engineering personnel were on
site in Palm Beach for 12 months, coordinating the retrofit procedures
and the installation of new equipment. Throughout the installation
process, existing plant operations were maintained without interruption.
Palm Beach County residents probably
won't spend much time thinking about their water reclamation plant.
But the plant's owners and operators will be constantly reassured
by the reliable system that allows them to run the plant effectively
and efficiently.
