Monitor and Control
Each RTU houses a central processor and radio
communication equipment. The RTU monitors and reports on a number
of conditions, including tank/well levels, power failure, access
alarms, and pumping activity at all remote sites. RTUs provide
notification of alarm conditions, such as pump outages or high
level conditions, before they become catastrophic events. The
central site's SCADA software allows you to monitor pump performance
in order to identify irregularities that may be signs of impending
problems.
The store-and-forward feature allows distant
pump/tank units to be included in the network even though they
may be out of line-of-sight with the main antenna. In addition
to their ability to report changes in monitored conditions, RTUs
may be polled by the central communication processor periodically
in order to verify the communication link.
RTUs also offer some control capabilities. Through
the RTU, you can initiate a "pump run" or "pump
off" sequence or send other system control commands. These
monitor and control capabilities help you provide a higher level
of service to customers while holding down your maintenance costs.
